TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) has handled the job of giving employment to persons in various services of the State Government of Tamil Nadu which also involves the State, Subordinate and Ministerial Services. It has always been TNPSC’s endeavor to upgrade and improve its prevalent procedures of selection in order to select the best candidates for the various public services. However, in doing so it has always followed the policy of recruitment and reservation of the State Government strictly. As the years roll on, the number of candidates applying for the TNPSC exam keeps on increasing. This is mainly due to the growth and development of various colleges and universities in the state. Some years back when the number became too high, preliminary exams were introduced before the written one to reduce the initial count.
This recruitment process is not a walk in the park. The selection process varies from service to service and is a combination of written and oral tests. For example, the highest level of recruitment of government services in the state, the Group-I exams are held in three stages-a preliminary test is usually followed by a written test and an oral test. For services like Group-IV, the procedure involves a main examination only.
To get a transparent selection process the type of questions in this exam is multiple-choice Questions or Objective type questions. Objective type examinations are mainly done to reduce the error that occurred in the old system of manual valuation of exams. TNPSC uses sophisticated Optical Mark Reading Scanners (OMR Scanners) and computers for this important task of computerized valuation.
TNPSC issues notifications about its exam dates well in advance in almost all the newspapers. The dates are fixed in such a way so that they cause no general hindrance to any other body or exam. TNPSC conducts tests for government services like TNEB, TWAD & Chennai Metrowater and for All India services like IAS, IPS, IFS, State Civil Service, TN Police Service, TN Forest Service, etc.
